Welcome to Don Higgins Esophageal Cancer Story (DHECS.org) Clinical Trials

When I registered with Moffitt Cancer Center as a patient, I volunteered to consider participating in clinical trials which help advance knowledge about esophageal cancer which is less than 1% of all cancers.

On October 14, 2022, I expressed interst in a clinical trial to test safety of new drug for esophageal cancer use.  However, after seeing the additional delays in starting radiation and chemo due to additional test endosopy and test scans for the trial, we decided to not participate in the study for the following reasons:

  1. Study only measured safety of drug use and not effectiveness in treating esophageal cancer.

  2. Study had less than 30 patients signed up, and we would prefer larger study population.

  3. Study required additional test endoscopies and test scans which would delay starting radiation and chemo
